Potted plants add character to the apartment. They decorate our interiors and help develop the passion for gardening without having your own piece of land. An important advantage is that many of them, e.g. dracaena, have the ability to purify the air. How to care for dracaena at home so that it grows beautiful?

Caring for dracaena is not demanding, so we use it even if we do not have much experience in plant care. It comes in many varieties differing in the shape and color of the leaves, which makes it easy to match the plant to the prevailing aesthetics of the interior. The presence of dracaena in the apartment has a positive impact on air quality, so it is worth taking care of it.

How to care for dracaena at home? If you take care of a few important aspects, it will grow beautifully

For dracaena to grow healthily, we must remember several important points in its cultivation. The plant prefers bright, diffused light, so it is best to place it near a window. Under no circumstances should we place it on the windowsill. The harsh sun could quickly burn the leaves and seriously damage them. Dracaena likes a constant temperature, between 18-24 degrees. It does not tolerate drafts well, so try to protect it against them.

This flower requires well-drained soil with adequate water drainage. A mixture of soil and sand or perlite works best. In summer, it is important to keep the soil constantly moist, so it is worth checking its hydration every few days. Never allow it to stand in the pot. This will cause the roots to rot and the plant to die. To prevent the leaves from drying out, it is worth spraying them with water once a day. Dracaena should be transplanted into a larger pot approximately every three yearsand to give it a boost to grow, prune the shoots as needed.

Yellow leaves appeared? You need to know how to make homemade dracaena fertilizer

When dracaena leaves start to turn yellow, it’s time to give it a nutritional “cocktail”. Usually, in such a situation, the plant lacks nutrients, which we can easily supplement. Nettle tea can help us. It is rich in nitrogen, iron and silicon, which support the growth and resistance of plants to diseases. Just pour a glass of boiling water over 3 tea bags and leave for 24 hours. Use the infusion to water the dracaena once a week.

To replenish calcium in the soil and ensure proper pH, collect some eggshells, grind them into a fine powder and add it to the pot. Thanks to this treatment, you will also strengthen the plant’s cell walls. Do you throw away the water after cooking carrots or beets? Never do that again. It turns out that the decoction of cooked vegetables is rich in minerals and vitamins that can support healthy plant growth. However, remember that it cannot contain added salt.
