During the difficult time of the pandemic, the government tried various methods to provide relief to industries that suffered greatly due to prolonged shutdowns of subsequent sectors of the economy. Beauty and hairdressing salons could not operate, schools were closed, the number of customers in stores was limited, all meetings were canceled, cemeteries and forests were closed. The industry organizing mass events, including concerts, also suffered. The government partially mitigated the effects of the pandemic by implementing a series of subsidies for the most affected industries – including the concert industry. as musicians who could not perform, they received funding, but information about its amount aroused a lot of interest.
The Golec brothers explain what the state subsidy looked like during the pandemic
Many musicians applied for a state subsidy due to the downtime during the pandemic. Those who were less known came for help, but also those who had enjoyed great popularity in recent years. When the amount of transfers received by front-page musicians was revealed, there were many unfavorable comments. They pointed out that high benefits, often amounting to several hundred thousand PLN, for people who are generally perceived as wealthy are simply inappropriate. The Golec brothers did not explain at that time that they had to support several dozen people with money from the state budget, who suddenly found themselves without the possibility of earning a living. They referred to the matter in a recent conversation with Plejada.
Subsidies were then awarded to 2,200 entities related to the artistic industry. (…) In our case, it was a drop of as much as 92%. compared to the previous year, which is why we were granted PLN 1.2 million. (…) It was not an amount to be divided between two of us, but between over a hundred people cooperating with us on various projects – explained Łukasz Golec. – We received donations for over two thousand artists who received subsidies.
I don’t know what the purpose of this attack was. Maybe she was provoked to cover up other scandals? I’m almost certain that most of the comments on Facebook and Instagram about us were written by trolls bought for this purpose. (…) As private individuals, we would probably survive the pandemic without any subsidies. But when applying for this support, we had the good of the company, our colleagues, musicians who had taken out loans and had a completely different financial situation than us in mind – said Paweł Golec.
The musicians said that if they had known how negatively the whole situation would affect them, they would not have applied for the subsidy again. Kamil Bednarek, who received support from the state in the amount of half a million zlotys, recently spoke in a similar tone. “If I had known what the consequences were, we certainly wouldn’t have reported it,” Bednarek said in an interview with Żurnalist.
