The text of her debut in Opole was written “quickly”. When she finished singing, the audience didn’t even move.

Although everyone was convinced of her talent, she did not believe in herself even when she stood on the stage of the Opole amphitheater for the first time. Edyta Geppert delighted not only the audience with her voice, but also the jurors, who honored her debut with a statuette. Soon 40 years will have passed since these events, and both the singer and the song “Jaka Róża, tak cierñ” still electrify subsequent generations.

Music was present in life almost from the first moments of her life. Her Hungarian mother instilled in her a love of folklore, and her grandfather instilled in her a passion for playing the accordion, which she received from him when she was only 5 years old. However, her passion for singing turned out to be stronger than all others and that’s how she joined the “Nowa Ruda” Song and Dance Ensemble, where she took her first steps on the stage. Although she delighted everyone with her voice, she was not convinced of her talent to such an extent that she did not even want to take part in the auditions for the State Secondary Music School. Fryderyk Chopin in Warsaw. – I wouldn’t have taken the exam if it weren’t for my friend Grażynka. Somewhere she heard me singing and said I should take it seriously. She wrote my application for me and took it to school. When the day of the exam came, she went with me and literally pushed me into the room in front of the board – after years in the pages of “Viva”.

What is the name of Edyta Geppert’s husband? For 4 years, Piotr Loretz was her professor at the music school

Fortunately, on her professional path, from the very beginning she met people who had much more faith in her abilities than she did. One of them was Piotr Loretz, whom she charmed with her angelic voice during the entrance exams. It was he who supported her development during her education, and when she obtained her diploma and began to timidly embark on an artistic path, he became her musical advisor and friend.

The friendship developed slowly, gradually, until it finally turned into a relationship, which they formalized during a modest and spontaneous wedding in 1985. – Funny and crazy, at eight in the morning. Afterwards, we boarded the train and went to Krakow, to the STU Theater, where I recorded my first album “Recital Live” – she talked about the most important day in their lives. Loretz became not only the love of her life, but also a guide in the industry. After Geppert’s phenomenal debut during the Actors’ Song Festival in Wrocław in 1983, she knew that the next step in the development of her career must be an appearance at . However, two years passed before Geppert stood on the stage of the famous amphitheater.

“Like a rose, like a thorn.” The premiere at the festival in Opole brought Geppert a statuette. This is how the song was created

Loretz asked the renowned composer Włodzimierz Korcz to compose the melody for the debut song of his then fiancée, but he did not immediately recognize the talent of the aspiring singer. He admitted that he had a beautiful voice, but that was where the advantages ended from his perspective. He changed his mind only when he heard her singing a French song during a rehearsal before a concert tour organized by Jerzy Dąbrowski from the Rozmaitości Theater. “For the first time in my life, my intuition failed me,” he said to Loretz.

The next step was to create a lyrical layer. Wojciech Młynarski was supposed to take care of this first, but he refused due to health problems. Then it was decided that he accepted the offer without hesitation and it was he who wrote “Like a rose, like a thorn”. – I had to write the text “quickly”. I had a few days – he told Onet, adding that he felt enormous pressure and burden of this task. – It was the first song by an extremely promising artist, and secondly, I knew that everyone in Opole would listen to it. It was a great responsibility, he added. From then on, everything was in Geppert’s hands.

In 1985, the singer stood on the stage of the Opole amphitheater for the first time during the 21st National Festival of Polish Song, delighting and astonishing everyone gathered. When the last notes of the song rang out, the audience froze. Only after 30 seconds of silence there was a thunderous standing ovation. The performance earned her a statuette for “best premiere song” and opened the door to a career that continues to this day. Cygan also triumphed that evening and was recognized with the award for the best text. If you feel like it, vote in our poll below.
