Jennifer Lopez played again in the Netflix production. This time she played the title character of the film “Atlas”, and the title immediately became a global hit. It fares worse in terms of viewership than in terms of critics’ reviews.

On May 24, the latest film starring Jennifer Lopez appeared on Netflix. “Atlas” is a sci-fi production about the titular Atlas Shepherd – a brilliant but embittered data analyst who does not trust artificial intelligence and joins the mission to capture a rebellious robot. There is a secret from her past that connects her with him. However, in the film, the plans quickly get out of control and it turns out that in order to save humanity from artificial intelligence, you have to cooperate with it.

“Atlas” was watched by 28 million viewers on Netflix

Brad Peyton’s work cost as much as $100 million. Commercially, the expense paid off. In the first days after its premiere, the film was watched by over 28 million viewers who spent over 56 million hours on Netflix. “Atlas” was at the top of the global list in the platform’s weekly hit list. The film’s result is impressive compared to another, much louder premiere.

At a similar time, “Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga” was released in cinemas. George Miller’s highly anticipated production failed to meet financial expectations. The film grossed just $33.4 million on its opening weekend. The previous installment of the saga boasted almost twice as much income after the first week of its premiere.

“Cheap, plastic, artificial”

However, when it comes to the reception of the work by viewers and critics. “Atlas” had no chance against “Furiosa”. The film with Jennifer Lopez scored only 19%. on the freshness scale from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and viewers rated it 49 percent. The reviewers’ main objection to the production is its repetitiveness. The prevailing opinion is that “Atlas” is a boring, repetitive and unoriginal film that could not be saved even by a large budget.

“A dud in every respect,” writes Fico Cangiano of CineXpress. “Cheap, plastic, artificial,” adds Alissa Wilkinson of the New York Times. Many critics claim that Lopez was one of the brighter points of the poor production, but there were also harsher comments about the actress. “No one has control over what Lopez does. Her acting is turned up to a goofy level, her screams are simplified emotional gibberish,” says Decider’s John Serba.
