Massive fines from the National Broadcasting Council. These stations will have to pay the most

On May 27, the “Report on activities in 2023” was published on the gov.pl website. run by the National Broadcasting Council. The 145-page document included, among other things, a list of decisions imposing penalties issued by the chairman of the council. It shows that in 2023, the National Broadcasting Council imposed a total of almost 70 fines on broadcasters for various offenses.

Telewizja Polska was the most frequently mentioned one on the list of penalized broadcasters. In 2023, Maciej Świrski imposed fines totaling PLN 320,000 on the public broadcaster. The chairman of the council fined, among others, TVP2 for “excessive exposure of the placed product” (PLN 70,000 and PLN 80,000), TVP Historiê 2 for “violation of regulations regarding programs for disabled people” (PLN 30,000) and TVP Kobietê for “disseminating programs that may have “bad influence on minors” (PLN 15,000).

KRRiT fined broadcasters for 2023

Maciej Świrski imposed fines totaling PLN 283,000 on the Polsat group. The highest fine was received by Telewizja Polsat for “incorrect classification of the film, broadcast too early” (PLN 70,000) and Polsat News for “hidden commercial message” (PLN 50,000). Slightly smaller amounts must be paid by, among others, Polsat Cafe for “self-promotional messages marked as advertisements” (PLN 20,000) and Polsat Games for “exceeding the advertising limit” (PLN 25,000).

TVN and TV Republika received slightly smaller fines than TVP and Polsat. In 2023, Maciej Świrski imposed fines in the amount of PLN 220,000 on the first broadcaster, among others, for “excessively displaying the placed product” (PLN 70,000) and “interrupting the news service with advertising (PLN 80,000). The second broadcaster was fined PLN 42,000, among others, for “promotion of alcoholic beverages” (PLN 13,000).

Also fined by the National Broadcasting Council were Kino Polska, Canal+, Grupa MWE Networks, Telewizja Puls, Astro/News24, Biznes24, Studiomed TV, Radio Poznań, Diocese of Opole (Radio Doxa), University of Warsaw (Radio Kampus), TV Wschód, Telewizja Gniezno , Truso.TV, Radio Impuls, Białystok University of Technology (Radio Akadera), Lokalna TV, Stella Telewizja Kablowa and Motowizja.
