Can you eat meat on Corpus Christi? The position of the Church is clear. He refers to one principle

Corpus Christi is also the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. It is an important church holiday because on this day the faithful celebrate the institution of the sacrament of the Eucharist. Many people ask themselves whether they can eat meat on this day? We know the answer.

In Poland, Corpus Christi is celebrated on the Thursday after the octave of Pentecost. It is a moveable feast. When it falls depends on the date of Easter. The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ falls 60 days after Easter, after the Feast of the Holy Trinity. This year it is May 30. An inherent element of Corpus Christi is the procession, but participation in it is not obligatory.

The procession goes through the city streets and stops at four altars, where fragments of the Gospel regarding the Blessed Sacrament are read. Since 1951, Corpus Christi is a public holiday. Although participation in the procession is not obligatory, it is a holiday of obligation, i.e. on this day you must attend Holy Mass.

If a believer cannot attend the service on the day of the celebration, he or she may take part in it the evening before. This is a very important holiday for Catholics, but on this day it is quiet they can eat meat foods. There is no fast. Strict fasting applies only on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

Is there a dispensation on Friday after Corpus Christi? This is the position of the church

Since Corpus Christi always falls on Thursday, many people extend their weekend and take time off on Friday as well. Catholics, however, wonder whether there is a dispensation on this occasion, i.e. exemption from the obligation to fast. According to the Christian faith, we should refrain from eating meat every Friday. Regarding the dispensation for the Friday after Corpus Christi (this year it is May 31), everything depends on the parish priest. He is the one who gives consent to eat meat that day. Therefore, you need to follow parish announcements or check whether there is any information on this subject on the parish website. If you feel like it, vote in our poll below.
