On New Year’s Eve, not only celebrities came to the city, but also crowds of tourists who left tons of garbage and made noise in one night, and Zakopane was increasingly associated with unsophisticated entertainment. In an interview with Plejada, Karpiel-Bułecka explained:

For several years, TVP’s Sylwester Marzeń has meant an event attended mainly by disco polo stars. The musicians gradually replaced the biggest stars of other genres of pop music, until they finally dominated it completely. For Sebastian Karpiel-Bułecka, the critical moment came when disco polo also took over the highlander atmosphere:
I remember that the cup of bitterness overtook me when disco polo bands started dressing in highlander costumes. This completely devastated me. And then I decided that it made no sense to me at all – he confessed in an interview with Plejada.
In earlier years, the musician himself was a frequent guest of Sylwester Marzeń – he performed together with the Zakopower band. Although he initially had hopes for the region from the New Year’s Eve party in Zakopane, now he looks at it completely differently:
Garbage, trampled Rówień Krupowa. There was knee-deep mud there. Sometimes it was sad to watch. I also asked my friends who run businesses in Zakopane. (…) I say: you must be happy that it’s New Year’s Eve, because it’s a way for you to earn money. It turns out that no, it didn’t work like that at all. These people came, went to this New Year’s Eve party, packed up and left. Others fell apart completely. And this family business didn’t really have any of it, he added.
Where will New Year’s Eve be held this year? TVP does not yet reveal which cities it is talking to. Several metropolises in Poland have many years of experience in organizing this type of event, including: Chorzów, Kraków or Wrocław.
