Schubert, Mahler, Scriabin, Pascual Aldave and Beatriz Arzamendi, in the new season of Euskadiko Orkestra
Euskaraz irakurri: Schubert, Mahler, Scriabin, Pascual Aldave eta Beatriz Arzamendi, Euskadiko Orkestraren hurrengo denboraldian
In the absence of a single subscription concert (“Dutilleux / Strauss”, June 3 to 7) to end the 2023/2024 season, Euskadiko Orkestra has presented the 2024/2025 season at its Miramon headquarters.
From September 27 to June 5, the orchestra will offer ten concerts in each of the venues in Bilbao, San Sebastián (two concerts per program), Vitoria-Gasteiz and Pamplona.
In the case of Vitoria-Gasteiz, the concerts will take place at the Jesús Guridi conservatory, since the Teatro Principal will remain closed for works. The orchestra is working to adapt to the needs of this transfer.
The contrast between works from the usual repertoire of Schubert or Mahler with other less performed ones by Scriabin or Schoenberg is one of the axes on which the next season of Euskadiko Orkestra will pivot, which will dedicate a space to the Navarrese composer Pascual Aldave on the centenary of his birth and will premiere a work by the Spanish composer Beatriz Arzamendi.

Considered one of the most important symphonists of Basque music of the 20th century, Pascual Aldave will be remembered with what was his ‘cathedral work’, titled Akelarrea symphonic-burlesque ballet that emerged in 1986 commissioned by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa to commemorate the centenary of Aita Donostia and Jesús Guridi and that will feature the Orfeón Pamplonés on vocals.
Among the conductors who will conduct the orchestra this season are Stanislav Kochanovsky, Christoph-Mathias Mueller, Dinis Sousa, Lukasz Borowicz and Juanjo Mena and for the first time the Estonian Kristiina Poska, chief conductor of the Flanders Symphony Orchestra.
In the soloist section, there will be the pianists Denis Kozhukhin and Rafal Blechacz, the violinists Baiba Skride and Pinchas Zukerman, as well as the cellists Amanda Forysth, in a duo with Pinchas Zukerman, and Daniel Müller.
The season will also feature album recordings dedicated to the Bilbao composer Gabriel Erkoreka and Richard Strauss, an author whose work the Basque orchestra had not yet recorded.
The price of the passes will be between 80 and 235 euros, and reservations can be formalized from July 1. All tickets will go on sale on September 1, at a price between 10 and 40 euros.
