The Palme d’Or has been very well received, although the favorite was The seed of the sacred figby Mohammad Rasoulof, a harsh criticism of the lack of freedom in Iran by a filmmaker who has fled his country to avoid facing an eight-year prison sentence for the crime of “collusion with the intention of committing crimes against the security of the country” through his films and documentaries.

Rasoulof had to settle for the Special Jury Prize, which the director received excitedly and dedicated to the members of his team, “held back and under pressure by the secret services of the Islamic Republic.” “Do not allow the Islamic Republic to treat Iranians like this,” said the director.
