Communion is a topic that has aroused extreme emotions in Poland for a long time. Some people want to experience it in peace, surrounded only by their immediate family and focus on the spiritual experiences associated with receiving the sacrament. Others do not shy away from organizing lavish parties for family and friends, giving the child expensive gifts. Every year, a discussion begins about how much money should be put in the envelope if we are invited to a party on the occasion of the First Holy Communion. Clergy often speak about organizing the First Holy Communion. Many of them criticize the fashion for First Communion parties.
A few days ago, a photo from the first Holy Communion in Poznań circulated on the Internet. They were published on the X platform by the well-known climate journalist Joanna Kędzierska, who runs the Climate Channel. The parents decided to organize a First Communion party for their son at the luxurious Sheraton hotel. The child’s photo was displayed on screens on the street, in front of the entrance to the hotel lobby. “Ksawery’s First Holy Communion” – read the inscription above the boy’s photo. “Whoever lives in Poland doesn’t laugh at the circus,” commented the journalist. In one of her answers she added that it was “nouveau riche”.

This situation was also commented on in an interview with the portal by Father Rafał Główczyński, known online as “The Priest from the Estate”. – We’re leaving. The sacrament of communion becomes a sacrament of stress. People prepare such a fate for other people. Children start comparing each other. How to explain to such a little man that one day he is a “prince” and the next day he is not? – he said in an interview with the website.
Of course, I know that parents mean well, but it is worth listening to what priests say. Let’s focus on spirituality. It’s not because priests want to forbid lunch or impose modesty. This allows children to avoid later injuries that can have a lifelong impact

A heated discussion broke out under Joanna Kędzierska’s entry, which appeared on the X platform on May 19. Some people admit that a First Holy Communion party at the Sheraton is an exaggeration. “I had a communion dinner at home and it was ok. Ages ago. Now it’s a wedding hall,” writes one of the Internet users. “Why not organize a wedding and communion for your family and loved ones? You don’t have to have a lot of money to spend an important time in your life with people you love,” notes another person.

However, some people strongly disagree with the tone of the post. They add that this type of information about where a given ceremony is taking place is normal in large hotels. Many Internet users emphasize that the organization of First Communion in a hotel conference room should not surprise anyone. Especially since many restaurants experience a real siege during the First Communion season when it comes to planned family events.
However, users of the X platform agree that placing a large banner with a child’s photo in a public and publicly accessible place is a controversial idea. Journalist, before publication entry, blurred the boy’s face in the photo. On the other hand, under Kędzierska’s post we also read that if the child consented to having his or her image published in the photo, everything should be fine.
A photo is an exaggeration, but information about which room is whose communion is held makes sense in the case of several events in one facility.
In hotels with a dozen or so rooms, it is normal to be shown where to go. After all, this is not advertising on the street but in the hotel lobby. Once in one hotel I saw seven weddings at once – also with photos
