Every year, thousands of teenagers take the Matura exam, hoping for the best possible results. These are intended to help them get into their dream studies and/or get a job in their desired profession. However, not everyone manages to achieve the desired result. Not everyone has or had a real opportunity to take the high school leaving exam. This is what happened to Mr. Józef Peruga, who has gained enormous fame in recent days.
The oldest high school graduate is 85 years old. “Go to your final exams. There’s nothing to be afraid of!”
Mr. Józef Peruga from Kalisz is 85 years old and is the oldest high school graduate in Poland this year
– wrote the mayor of Kalisz, Krystian Kinastowski, on Facebook.
– Józef Peruga, born near Turek, has lived in our city for over 20 years – added the politician. – During the war, as a small child, he was a prisoner in a German camp. He lived in several regions of the country, including Kowary. For years he worked as a bus and truck driver.
Life is easier with education. I wanted to be a policeman, work in the traffic department. It failed because there was no education. Go to your final exams. It’s worth it. There is nothing to be afraid of!
– said Mr. Józef Peruga, quoted on .
The oldest high school graduate prepared for the exams on his own. “Nobody wanted to take it”
How did it happen that Mr. Józef Peruga took the high school leaving exam? People around him had a significant influence on his decision. , he was encouraged to do so by a friend and a colleague 10 years younger than him, who also took up the challenge himself. It turns out, however, that studying for the final exams was not easy for Mr. Józef. However, it was not because of learning difficulties, but because of the lack of a teacher who would prepare the 85-year-old. The man suspects that his age was the biggest obstacle.
I went all over Kalisz and no one wanted to do it. They said they already had the set
– we read in “Wyborcza”. However, this did not demotivate the high school graduate. He decided to prepare himself. He doesn’t have a smartphone or computer, so he often went to the library and acquired knowledge in a traditional way. He also took the German language exam, which he “skimmed” while working in Lower Silesia. He learned it by listening to tapes played in his car. He passed the oral exam. Currently waiting for the results of the written exam.
In addition to German, he took tests in geography, Polish and mathematics, which – as he himself said – was the biggest challenge. Interestingly, he does not intend to rest on his laurels. If his health is good, he plans to go to college. Direction? Economy.
