The beloved hero from Coben’s books will not be adapted into a film. The writer revealed the reason for this decision

Although ten Harlan Coben novels have been adapted into films so far, none of them concerns the fate of Myron Bolitar, beloved by readers. In the latest interview, the writer directly admitted that this was his conscious decision. He also revealed what is hidden behind it.

for years he has been considered one of the most widely read American writers in the world. They are extremely popular, and their series adaptations are breaking viewing records. So far, as many as 10 books have been adapted to screens, 8 of which are available in the Netflix library.

Series based on Coben’s novels are conquering Netflix. Two more adaptations are in the works

Coben’s last novel adapted into a series is “You Can’t Fool Me Anymore”, which has been considered one of his best works for years. Shortly after its premiere, which took place on January 1, 2024, it was at the top of the TOP 10 most popular, and although it disappeared from the ranking, giving way to subsequent hits, it is still considered one of the most watched by the website’s subscribers. This is not the end, however, two more titles are currently being worked on.

We’re talking about “I Miss You”, filming of which started a few weeks ago, and “A Step Too Far”. For now, it is not known when they will debut in the website’s library. According to the announcement, the platform plans to develop 4 other titles. One thing is certain – the hero of none of them will be Myron Bolitar. Why?

We will probably not see the story of this hero Coben on screen. The writer revealed the reason

This hero needs no introduction to fans of Coben’s work. Myron Bolitar is a detective as popular as Hercule Poirot, whose adventures have already been the subject of 11 novels beloved by readers. So far, however, none of them have been adapted into a series, although they could certainly claim to be hits. All because of the personal decision of the writer, who has specific ideas about this character.

In a recent interview, he spoke directly about his concerns. He stated that a possible impersonator of the detective might not only fail to live up to his vision, but might not understand it at all. In turn, during an interview with “The Times”, there was a suggestion that Stanley Tucci, known from productions such as “The Devil Wears Prada” or “Angel’s Nostalgia”, would be suitable for the role of the famous detective. Coben admitted that he loves this actor, as well as all titles with his participation. However, in his opinion, Bolitar is definitely his “faster, stronger and funnier” version.
