The nurses received a gift from the KO MP. The Internet went into a frenzy. “But in a beautiful parliamentary bag”

What to give the nurse as a thank you? The International Day of Nurses and Midwives, which we celebrate every year on May 12, was a great opportunity to express gratitude for the hardships of everyday work. It turns out that some employees received unusual gifts.

On May 12, 2024, many people celebrated International Midwives Day. It was an ideal opportunity to thank people who often show us a lot of empathy, take care of us and help us recover. The holiday was established in 1973 in Mexico with Florence Nightingale in mind, the creator of modern nursing, which is still with us today. On this day, nurses and midwives had the opportunity to receive a lot of appreciation for their hard work. It turns out that some of them caused a storm on the Internet.

How to thank nurses? The MP gave them… “withered” apples

A post appeared on Facebook @SiostraBozenna showing a gift received on this special day. The profile is famous for publicizing absurd situations and showing how difficult and underestimated the work of nurses is.

How is it going? Did you get any nice gifts for Nurses’ Day? For example, there is a place where nurses received wilted apples from an MP, but in a beautiful parliamentary bag. Fortunately, it’s all in the spirit of ‘May you always feel appreciated as you deserve’

– it was written in the post.

The gift was presented by Iwona Karolewska, a member of the Polish Parliament (KO), and photos of the contents of the bag quickly began to be published on subsequent platforms, including X, and have already gained enormous publicity throughout Poland.

“Is that where the nurses and midwives got these withered apples from?” The MP replied

Under MP Iwona Karolewska’s post with wishes for nurses and midwives on Facebook, a question was quickly asked by one of the Internet users about the apples they were supposed to receive as a gift on their holiday.

Is that where the nurses and midwives got these wilted apples from? Civic Platform, shame!

– it was written. However, the MP quickly denied that the apples were not fresh.

No, ma’am. The nurses got apples from me straight from a local orchardist. Juicy and healthy. (…) Have you seen these apples? If not, please refrain from commenting.’

Also in the interview with Iwona Karolewska she explained that the apples were not stale and also informed her why she decided to give them such a gift. – These were Jonagored apples, stored in a cold store at a temperature of 1.2 degrees Celsius, packed on the day of delivery in disposable cardboard packaging. They were clean, firm and juicy. I receive thanks and photos from the nurses who received the apples, showing what the apples really looked like, she explained. – I have always remembered about nurses. (…) While still a local government official, I visited all the places where nurses work in my city. Every year we brought cake, congratulations and thanks. This year we handed out gifts on Monday, so the confectionery shops did not have a full range. Additionally, last year the jelly melted due to the temperature. So I thought we would give the nurses something healthy, apples, and support our local orchardist who sells them, said the MP. – If anyone was offended that instead of a cake this year, the wishes and thanks were accompanied by a healthy snack, I’m sorry. Next year I will think about something else. Because regardless of today’s wave of hate, I will remember to thank people who perform such an important and responsible profession on May 12, she concluded.
