At the beginning of April 2024, there was a lively discussion on the Internet about domestic violence. All thanks to the TVN24 material entitled “Electoral Bone of Contention”. The author of the report was Mariusz Sidorkiewicz, who told about the brawl in Bartoszyce, where a married couple quarreled over the results of the local government elections. However, the discussion did not end with a loud exchange of words. The 44-year-old hit her partner with a bone she took out of the soup that was boiling. The beaten man with head injuries was taken to hospital, where doctors had to stitch the wound. It quickly turned out that the couple was under the influence of alcohol and it was not the first incident of this type in their home. The unusual situation made the host of the program, Anna Seremak, react to it with laughter. The bone attack amused her so much that she was unable to continue working. It must be admitted that the description of the fight was absurd, but nevertheless the subject of domestic violence had to be treated seriously. Especially since in this case the aggressor was a woman, and violence against men is still very downplayed. “You should send a clear, strong message to the media throughout Poland: violence against men is a real phenomenon and must not be underestimated or ridiculed, and the victims of this violence deserve help and support,” said Jakub Chabik, chairman of the Association for Boys and Men, who filed a complaint against the presenter with the Media Ethics Council.

There were more similar complaints. In an interview with Wirtualne Media, the representative of REM emphasized that, in his opinion, the journalist had not violated the principles of “objectivity, respect or tolerance”. In his statement, he explained that she did not need to know the woman’s past, which came to light later, and her reaction could be compared to a reaction to a “not the first kind of joke.”
