A sensation in the Lublin region. He was picking raspberries and found a strange object. This is a 5,000-year-old monument

A resident of Potok Górny in the Lublin Voivodeship found a real treasure. At the end of April he went to the field to pick raspberries. While working, he noticed a strange object. It turned out to be a tool from 5,000 years ago.

In Poland, we regularly hear about archaeological discoveries. Antique objects are pulled out of the ground not only by relic hunters or professional archaeologists, but also by ordinary people. This happens accidentally, for example while gardening. This was also the case with Sławomir from Potok Górny. On April 26, 2024, he went to the field to take care of his plantation. There was a shocking discovery there.

Archaeological discoveries in Poland. He found an antique axe

Sławomir Brzozowski found an object made of flint. He didn’t know what it was, so he called the Provincial Office for the Protection of Monuments, Lublin Branch in Zamość. He sent employees a photo of the find by e-mail and informed them of the exact location. It turned out that it was fragment of the lower part of a tetrahedral ax with a blade made of Świeciechów flint. The artifact was gray-brown in color and had white spots of various sizes. The ax is 6.5 cm long, 2.2 cm thick, and the blade width is approx. 6.5 cm. The longitudinal section is wedge-shaped and the cross-section is rectangular. According to scientists, the tool may have originally been 19-20 cm long. It was most likely made by the Late Neolithic people of the Globular Amphora culture.

Incredible archaeological discoveries. This is the third ax in this area

The entire story was described on his Facebook profile by the Lublin Provincial Conservator of Monuments. Employees of the conservation office inspected the area on May 8. The ax most likely comes from the first half of the 3rd millennium BC. The office informed that such finds in the Lublin Voivodeship are very rare.

So far, they have been discovered mostly in the eastern part of our voivodeship and in Volhynia and Podolia in Ukraine. The appearance of this type of monuments in the vicinity of Biłgoraj is a certain sensation, allowing us to believe that the people of this culture penetrated much larger areas than we previously thought.

This is the third ax of the Globular Amphora Culture found near Biłgoraj. During a surface exploration of the field, two fragments of modern pottery from the 18th and 19th centuries and two natural fragments of erratic (post-glacial) flint were also found.
