On April 9, 2024, a scandalous situation occurred on air. “Day Live” featured a report titled “Electoral Bone of Contention” by Mariusz Sidorkiewicz, which talked about a marital quarrel that ended with police intervention and a visit to the hospital. However, what caused greater outrage among viewers was not the event itself, but the behavior of the presenter present in the studio.
The results of the local elections were divided by a couple from Bartoszyce. During the argument, fistfights broke out
In Bartoszyce, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, a married couple quarreled over the results of the local government elections. The case took a dramatic turn when the 44-year-old woman unexpectedly pulled out a bone from the pot of soup she was cooking at the time and hit her partner’s head with it. The police arrived at the scene, but the man’s injuries were so serious that he was taken to hospital, where he was treated by specialists.
As it quickly turned out, the couple was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. Moreover, it was not the first incident of this type, and there had been serious disputes between them before. It also came to light that the woman already had a suspended sentence for using alcohol, so this time she would be responsible for recidivism, for which she could face up to 7.5 years in prison.
The report made Anna Seremak laugh. The journalist received complaints. The Media Ethics Council has already reacted
After Sidorkiewicz’s material, the studio was called, but the host of the program that day, Anna Seremak, was unable to continue. All because she was bursting with laughter. Her reaction caused mixed feelings, although she herself joked about it on social media. Apparently, not everyone treated this matter with humor, because the Media Ethics Council received three complaints. One of them was submitted by the chairman of the Association for Boys and Men, calling for appropriate consequences.
You should send a clear, strong message to the media throughout Poland: violence against men is a real phenomenon, it cannot be neglected or ridiculed, and the victims of this violence deserve help and support.
– Jakub Chabik. Ryszard Bańkowicz, representing REM, has already spoken on the matter. In an interview, he stated that, in his opinion, the journalist had not violated the principles of “objectivity, respect or tolerance.” He emphasized that she was not obliged to know the woman’s past, it came to light only some time later, and the surprise of the story made her react to it “as if it were a joke of the highest order.” At the same time, he emphasized that the proposed attempts to define guidelines for the media may have the opposite effect than intended. – If associations representing all these circles managed to effectively force the media to comply with a set of such “standards”, before we all knew it, they would become the skeleton of a new censorship system – he concluded.
