As we age, our memory begins to deteriorate. Recent research shows that there is a simple way to improve it. It turns out that a properly selected diet rich in one ingredient has a beneficial effect, which also supports the work and functioning of the brain. What is it about?
What to cook for older people? The research is clear
As research in “Nature Communications” conducted by scientists from the School of Life Course & Popularion Sciences showed, it turns out that rich in fiber, it has a positive effect on improving memory in seniors. The tests involved 36 pairs of twins, i.e. a total of 72 people, each of whom was over 60 years old. A double-blind trial was performed, i.e. half of them received a fiber-rich supplement and the rest received a placebo, and the participants did not know which group they were in. In addition, everyone performed exercises and consumed protein supplements, which were supposed to have a beneficial effect on their muscles.

They ate more fiber for 12 weeks. The difference was noticeable
Throughout the study period, participants were monitored by specialists and performed various tests. It turned out that the group consuming fiber had noticeable changes in the intestinal microbiome and significantly more beneficial bacteria appeared in it. Although there was no significant difference in muscle strength, the situation was slightly different in the case of the brain. “Fiber” people gained significantly better results in tests that assessed brain functioning. First of all, we are talking about better results when learning in pairs and faster reaction times. Of course, it is worth bearing in mind that these are only preliminary studies and their long-term effects will only be investigated. In addition, the diet should be treated as a supplement, not the basis for possible treatment.
What has the highest fiber content? Include these products in your diet

They are a rich source above all legumes, fruits such as pears and apples, dried and fresh vegetables, groats, nuts and cereal products. We are talking about oat flakes, bran, whole grain and wholemeal bread. You can also find fiber in chia seeds and linseed.
