Nemo wins, but in the last seconds a small disaster occurred. Everyone heard a clang

We thought that nothing would happen after Switzerland’s victory was announced, but in the last seconds of the Eurovision 2024 broadcast, something very unexpected happened. This is what I call the finale!

MThe victory of the 68th Eurovision Song Contest belongs to Switzerland, and specifically to the artist who performs as Nemo. The song “The Code” scored as many as 591 points, taking first place in the jury’s vote and fifth place according to the viewers, and therefore Nemo performed at the end of Saturday’s concert after receiving the Crystal Microphone. Unfortunately, in the last seconds, viewers in front of their TV sets heard a clang.

Eurovision 2024 for Switzerland, but Nemo leaves the stage without a statuette

The representative of Switzerland broke the prize! At the end of the performance, he picked up a crystal microphone, and when he put it down, it simply fell apart. The microphone-shaped statuette from the 1950s is made of sandblasted glass. The author of the project is Kjell Engman.

“The Code” was written by Benjamin Alasu, Lasse Midtsian Nymann, Linda Dale and Nemo Mettler. The song details Nemo’s realization of his non-binary identity. This was supposed to give them “freedom”, and participation in the Eurovision Song Contest would give them the opportunity to stand “in defense of the entire LGBTQIA+ community”. According to Nemo, accepting the fact that they “felt neither male nor female… He had to break some codes.”

How much does the Crystal Microphone broken by Nemo cost?

The winner of Eurovision does not receive a cash prize. The statuette is a symbol of winning, and an additional prize is the opportunity to perform in front of the audience again at the end of the final. Of course, according to tradition, the country represented by the winner will be the organizer of the next edition of the event.

And although the Crystal Microphone is theoretically not valuable, it has value measured in popularity and more. The winners from two years ago, the Ukrainian group Kalush Orchestra, decided to auction their prize to help defend Ukraine against Russia. The statuette “went” for PLN 900,000. dollars., i.e. for over 3 million 800 thousand zlotys.

Nemo uses the pronouns “they/them”, which can be translated into Polish in many ways in the context of non-binary people – we do not have one specific use. In support of the Miłość Nie Wyleża association, we recommend browsing the zaimki.pl website and its translation suggestions, including: gendered pronouns and nouns.
