Eurovision 2024. The French interrupted the dress rehearsal and blew up the arena in the final. By voice

It turns out that we are dealing with another controversy during Eurovision 2024. The disqualification of the Netherlands or the decision of Kaarija, the Finnish representative from last year, to boycott this year’s competition is not everything. Now we learn that Slimane from France did not finish the dress rehearsal. He also made a change in the final.

France is one of the so-called countries The Big Five, who without competing in the semi-finals, is always guaranteed a place in the Saturday concert. This year, this country is represented by Slimane with the song “Mon Amour”. Like the other finalists, he appeared at the dress rehearsal before the final, but interrupted his performance.

Eurovision 2024. The Frenchman interrupted the rehearsal and started his speech. There was also a deviation in the finale

– At a key moment in the song, Slimane stopped performing it. He began to say, referring to the slogan of this year’s Eurovision, that we are united by music, but it should also be related to peace and love. He confessed that what he does is inextricably linked to these values. After these words, there was thunderous applause in the hall. Despite this, Slimane did not finish performing the song. When the music stopped, he simply bowed and left the stage, Konrad SzczÄ™sny, president of the Association of Eurovision Song Contest Lovers OGAE Polska, told Natemat.

Also during Saturday’s final, he allowed himself a shorter, but still, statement. “United by music for love and peace”, he shouted after the performance. Earlier, he was moved by a fragment of the song sung at a great distance from the microphone. His strong voice was clearly heard, although at one point he stood about two meters from the microphone. You can see it in the third minute of the performance (here from the semi-final).

Although the word “Israel” was not mentioned during his speech, the controversy and confusion this year is related to this country’s participation in the competition. Eden Golan wanted to take part in Eurovision with a song titled “October Rain”, which brought to mind the Hamas attacks last year, to which Israel responded disproportionately and whose attacks have not stopped since October. Because songs competing for the Crystal Microphone must be apolitical, the European Broadcasting Union forced Israel to change the title to “Hurricane.” The text has also changed, but you can still find references to the events of October 2023.

The audience is booing, there are protests in the streets

Even before the participants arrived in Malmo, where this year’s Eurovision is taking place, many people protested against Israel’s participation. They believe that the country should suffer the same fate as Russia after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, i.e. exclusion from the competition. However, the EBU did not decide to take this step.

Israel performed in the second semi-final and got to the final. During Eden Golan’s performance on Saturday, there were protests on the streets of Malmo. Last year’s winner announced that if Israel wins, she will not give the prize to the winner. “The Sun” reports that Loreen, as a sign of protest, will not hand over the award to Eden Golan, but leave it on the column. .
