The second vice president and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz has asked that Israel not participate in Eurovision because he considers that the contest “is not a showcase to whitewash Israel’s genocide.”
In a message that she shared on her X profile, the minister commented that Eurovision “is joy, peace and diversity” and added that “it is not the showcase in which to whitewash the Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian peoplewhich is death, destruction and hatred.”
Furthermore, Díaz has insisted that Israel “is incompatible with the values promoted by the contest and should not participate”.
The message comes just one day before the Eurovision final is held, which has received a lot of criticism in recent weeks precisely because of Israel’s participation.
In both Israel’s performance in the Eurovision dress rehearsal and in the semi-final, The public boycotted Eden Golan’s performance with boos and whistles. Although the Swedish television station STV tried to cover up the boos during the broadcast with anti-booing systems and canned applause, one could hear how The public protested during his performance.
