Steve Albini, American musician and producer, has died in his Chicago studio at the age of 61. Albini, producer of the album In Utero of Nirvana, has suffered a heart attack.
Albini was almost a musical craftsman who, unlike many contemporary producers, acted as a sound technician; He barely participated in decisions in the musical field. “I only want to work on albums that reflect the true personality of the bands,” he wrote to the members of Nirvana in a letter in which he offered to record with them the next album. Nevermind. Albini was one of the fundamental people in establishing the harsh sound of alternative rock in the 1980s and 1990s.
“If a record takes more than a week to record, someone is screwing up,” Albini said.
With Nirvana he recorded In Uterobut I also work with other great groups and soloists such as Urge Overkill, Pixies (on the album Pink Surfer), The Jesus Lizar, PJ Harvey, John Spencer Blues Explosion, Neurosis, Mogwai…
Berri Txarrak recorded the album with Albini Payolafrom 2009, and Gorka Urbizu stated yesterday on the social network Instagram, upon learning of Albini’s death, that it was “a sad day” for music.
Albini was also a guitarist, and played in the groups Big Black and Shellac. Precisely the next album by the latter, To All Trainswas scheduled to leave on May 17.
