The final gala of Miss World 2021 will be held in March 2022, in Puerto Rico

The 98 contestants from all over the world are expected to return to the ‘island of enchantment’ on these dates, including the Ecuadorian Ámar Pacheco.

The organization of Miss Mundo announced that he rescheduled the final gala of the contest for March 16, 2022 in Puerto Rico, after he had to postpone it due to the COVID-19 infection of a score of contestants.

The gala of the 70th edition of Miss World will take place at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in Puerto Rico, according to the statement published on the organization’s Facebook page.

“We are very excited to stay in Puerto Rico to crown the new Miss World!” Julia Morley, president of Miss World Ltd, said in the note on Tuesday, December 21.

“We have been overwhelmed by the support of the people here! The countdown and final planning has begun. Our team is delighted to show all the wonders that Puerto Rico has to offer as a tourist destination,” he added.

The 98 contestants from all over the world are expected to return to the ‘island of enchantment’ for these dates, among them, the Ecuadorian Ámar Pacheco, to compete for the crown during the televised final gala, in which the videos recorded on the island between November and December will be broadcast.

The final of the contest was to be held on December 16, but hours before its start it was canceled due to the cases of COVID-19 detected among contestants and technical personnel.

On that date, the organizers reported that the gala was postponed for 90 days and that the entire team would remain in quarantine and would return to their countries of origin once they received the go-ahead from the island’s health authorities.

The Puerto Rico Department of Health then specified that a total of 38 people linked to the contest had tested positive, including 23 contestants.

It is the first time that the Miss World final has been held in a Spanish-speaking venue and in 69 years of competition, 15 Latinas have won the crown, two of them Puerto Rican: Wilnelia Merced Forsyth (1975) and Stephanie Del Valle (2016).

Infections on the island have skyrocketed in the last week due to the omicron variant and various mass events, with the positivity rate exceeding 15%. (I)
