Few people know who Artur Orzech is by profession. It has nothing to do with music

Artur Orzech, a long-time commentator of the Eurovision Song Contest, wanted to study Japanese studies before becoming a musician and presenter. Ultimately, he was accepted into a completely different field, and after several years of work in the profession, he understood what his greatest passion really was.

After a five-year break, Artur Orzech returned to Polish Television as a Eurovision commentator. He discovered his passion for music right after graduating from college, which he got into by accident in 1983. Initially, the presenter planned to study Japanese studies, but fate pushed him towards Iranian studies. Orzech discovered a hidden talent for language, which he used in his later work.

He hosted Eurovision for years. Few people know who he is by education

Only a year after starting his studies, Orzech received a job as a translator. He even participated in negotiations regarding the sale of turbines to a sugar factory. Three years later, he went to Afghanistan, where he participated in a research scholarship at the University of Kabul. After graduating, the university authorities offered him a job at the Faculty of Oriental Studies.

In the meantime, Artur Orzech became interested in music. He joined the band Róże Europa, but quickly realized that his image as a rockman was at odds with the concept of working for a university. So he left the group, but he regretted his decision just a few months later. Music gave him joy and excitement, which is why he started his adventure with radio in the early 1990s. He joined the Radio Dla Nasze radio station, later moved to Radio One, and finally settled in Radio Trójka, where over the years he hosted several programs, including “Orzech i pozna” and “The Hit List of Program Three”.

In parallel with his work on the radio, Artur Orzech started his television career at TVP1. He was the host of “Chances for Success”, “Questions for Breakfast” and “Sing and Fight”. He had been the host of Eurovision since 1992, but his cooperation with Polish Television ended abruptly in 2021. Then Aleksander Sikora and Marek Sierocki became commentators of the competition.

Orzech returned to TVP in 2024: “I heard two questions from the TVP management. First, whether I would comment on the Eurovision Song Contest this year. I answered yes. It was hard to refuse, since I devoted half of my professional life to Eurovision. There was also a question whether I will return to ‘Szansa na success’. I also initially agreed,” admitted Artur Orzech in an interview with “Presserwise
