Goat + chickens + lasagna = victory. Croatia goes for the Eurovision crystal microphone

He draws inspiration from Rammstein, System of a Down, Vivaldi and Beethoven. For the music video, he used a part of the village where his girlfriend comes from, and he came up with the name when he had a headache. Here – there are many indications – this year’s Eurovision winner: Marko Purisiæ from Croatia.

“I’m a big boy now, I can go, I sold the cow. I’ll miss you all, but most of all the cat, cat meow, please meow” – this is a summary of this year’s Eurovision hit straight from the Croatian interior. The song “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” by Baba Lasagna is predicted to give Croatia its first long-desired victory at . What is this lasagna all about and where did the idea for “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” come from?

Eurovision 2024. Baby Lasagna from “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” hasn’t sung yet, but he’s already winning

If bookmakers were to award the Eurovision victory, Croatia would have had a crystal microphone in its possession for several weeks now. However, there are many indications that bookmakers’ ratings and viewers’ sympathies have already become so clear that Tuesday’s semi-final and Saturday’s final are just a formality before the official confirmation of Croatia’s victory. This year, the Croatians entered the competition in Malmo with a one-person project called Baby Lasagna and they focused on a rock-techno-pop song, with which they have already won the hearts of fans in Europe.

The man behind Baby Lasagna is 29-year-old Marko Purisić, who won the Croatian preselection in February. In the country, the votes of viewers and jurors were combined, so it can be safely said that “Rim Tim Dagi Dim” is the choice of the entire Croatia. Since February, Baby Lasagna has been dominating the Eurovision charts, although it was included in the preselections rather by accident.

I filled out the application form, which fortunately wasn’t too complicated, sent it and forgot about everything. When the first lists of qualified candidates appeared, I found out about it only a few days later. I was convinced that it was one of those applications that you send and to which no one ever responds, just like when applying for a job – he said in an interview with ESCUnited.com before the pre-selection final.

He joined the pre-selection at the last minute – thanks to the resignation of another singer, there was a place for the first person from the reserve list, i.e…. for Baba Lasagna. Marko Purisić has been performing under this “name” for over a year and does not hide the fact that there is no greater philosophy behind it.

Honestly, I like pizza better. But that day I was looking for a shop in Novigrad where I could buy a bottle of water. I had a headache and wanted to drink an aspirin. Then this name popped into my head. Many hip-hop artists are called “Baby-something” or “Baby-someone”. Well, I wanted to be Baby too, but with something stupid. Hence Baby Lasagna – he explained patiently in an interview with WiwiBloggs.com.

“Rim Tim Tagi Dim” itself means absolutely nothing, even though it is supposed to be the name of a folk dance. The story the song tells is absolutely true. Marko grew up in a small Croatian town and, as he says, he had the opportunity to emigrate to the United States for work. He didn’t decide on his own, but many young Croatians took this step.

The emigration of young people from the Balkan countries is a huge political problem. I talk about it from an emotional perspective. I had the opportunity to work outside the country several times, and I always gave up out of fear. I never left my city and here I focused on music – he said in an interview with Eurovision Stars.

Marko Purisić is a little surprised by the popularity (“When it all started, I had to delete Instagram”), but not that much:

I believe in this song. I believe that “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” can be even higher than in the TOP10 – he announced before winning the national preselections.

The prediction turns out to be absolutely correct. Croatia tops all rankings. It’s hard to say that anyone is hot on her heels – according to bookmakers, Baby Lasagna has a 16 percent advantage over Switzerland. In the Eurovision poll, in which almost 180,000 votes were cast, the advantage is smaller (only three percentage points), but in previous years it was enough to confirm the winner later in the final.

Eurovision 2024. Croatia is going for the crystal cup

Croatia looks like a winner like a rain kite. Since 1993, when they appear as an independent country, they have never managed to win the competition. There were already places in the top ten, but after 2000 there was an average series of distant final positions, and later even no qualifications to the final. The hopes for “Rim Tim Tags Dim” are very high indeed.
