TVP submitted a draft Duty Charter to the National Broadcasting Council, the provisions of which include, among other things, the liquidation of 7 TVP channels and the restoration of TVP 4K, but not yet for Euro 2024, as previously announced.

Telewizja Polska initiated key changes as part of the draft of the new Duty Charter for 2025-2029. This document, which was sent to the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT), assumes the liquidation of seven channels that do not meet the expected viewing figures. On the other hand, it took a significant place in the plan TVP 4K channelsymbolizing the direction towards modernity and image quality.

Telewizja Polska currently operates the widest spectrum of channels among public broadcasters in Europe, with 22 stations in its portfolio, including the flagship TVP1 and TVP2, regional TVP3, and a number of specialist channels such as TVP Sport and TVP Kultura. Virtual media report that the documentation of the European Audiovisual Observatory shows that including 39 TVP channels (including regional versions), it has the most programs among public broadcasters in the European Union.

Details of planned changes

According to the new Charter of Duties, he plans consolidation of three thematic channels: TVP Historia, TVP Nauka and TVP Document into one channel called TVP Wiedza, which is intended to integrate educational and documentary content. This move is aimed at optimizing resources and increasing the attractiveness of the offer. Additionally, it is planned to withdraw the channels TVP Kultura 2, TVP Historia 2, TVP ABC 2, TVP Woman and Alfa TVP, which is a response to the low profitability and limited range of these stations. After the December changes, TVP’s financing was reorganized, relying on funds from the budget reserve and advertising revenues. The elimination of less effective channels is aimed at better management of public funds. who is the liquidator of TVP, emphasized that the difficult decision to liquidate some stations results from the relatively low shares of these programs and cost effectiveness.

Technological development through the introduction of TVP 4K

The costs related to the maintenance and development of TVP 4K are estimated at PLN 36.4 million per year. It is planned that the station will use modern technological solutions and high image quality. Changes to the portfolio are also aimed at adapting to the changing media market, where more and more people are looking for content online.
