Jacek Zieliński is dead. The artist was 78 years old
Jacek Zieliński died on May 6, 2024, at the age of 78. The musician’s cause of death was not given.
Zieliński was born in 1946 in Kraków, and his contribution to the development of Polish music remains invaluable. The artist graduated from a music high school in the violin class and was a vocalist, trumpeter, arranger and composer.
It was he who came up with the name “Skaldowie”
From 1965, the musician co-founded the rock group Skaldowie and was the originator of the band’s name, which refers to court poets in the historic Scandinavian culture. The artists combined big-beat, progressive rock, pop, jazz and highlander folklore in their songs.
“Since none of us wanted to sing, Andrzej (Zieliński – editor’s note) came up with the idea of inviting his brother Jacek, who is also musically talented and plays the violin, trumpet and sings. With his arrival in the band From month to month, more and more vocal compositions appeared, to which I wrote several lyrics,” Jerzy Fasiński recalls the beginnings of the Skalds in the program “Kraków feels the blues”.
Jacek Zieliński also performed solo. He sang, among others, at the National Festival of Polish Song in Opole in 1967, the song “Dzień niepodobny do Dzień”, and then with Łucja Prus “In the yellow flames of leaves”. In 2006, the artist was awarded the Gold Medal for Merit to Culture Gloria Artis, and eight years later he received the Gold Cross of Merit for artistic achievements.
