The pavilion designed by Zygmunt Stępiński was created in 1966 as part of the “Eastern Wall” initiative. The structure was distinguished by a light steel frame and almost entirely glass facades, thanks to which the first floor seemed to be floating in the air. The entire project was based on the concept of a commercial and service premises merging with the street – thus fitting into a broader vision of a modern city center.
Cepelia in the center of Warsaw is being renovated. What will be built in the building?
The iconic pavilion will soon regain its former glory. All thanks to a comprehensive renovation consistent with the original and preserving the characteristic elements of the facade and interior. The implementation assumes restoring the modernist lightness of the building – glass walls, vegetation and characteristic free-standing display cases will return. The structure of the building and the roof will undergo renovation. The historical lighting, façade cladding, characteristic lamella windows and decorative elements will also be reproduced – including the unique blue ceramic cladding by Stanisław Kucharski, composed of hand-fired tiles.
