Andrzej Grabowski was to become a priest: “whom will I deceive, the priest, God, myself…”

Young Grabowski was initially supposed to become a priest, but around high school his artistic passions took over and he finally decided to pursue a career in theater and film. Today, although he is a believer, he does not receive the sacraments for one reason…

Andrzej Grabowski grew up in a believing family in Alwernia, a town known for its Benedictine monastery, which influenced his early life. At a young age he served as an altar boy in church. Grabowski was initially supposed to become a priest, but around high school, his artistic passions took over and he finally decided to pursue a career in theater and film. This decision not only changed his personal fate, but also, as he himself admits, was better for the church, which did not lose out on this choice.

Andrzej Grabowski about faith and sacraments

Even though he is a believer, his attitude to practicing faith is very individual. In an interview for the “Jaruzelska Stars” program, he admitted that although faith has an important place in his life, he does not use the sacraments. He mentioned a conversation with priest prof. Kłoczowski, with whom the actor discussed theater, but also his approach to sin and sacraments:

I like talking to priests. Once, after the premiere in Krakow, I talked to Fr. prof. Kłoczowski, Dominican. Fantastic guy, very smart. We talked a bit about theater, and at one point I told him that I didn’t use the sacraments because there were certain things I didn’t regret. So who am I deceiving, the priest, the Lord God, myself, that I repent of my sins when I do not repent? We know what sins were involved, you can guess. He looked a little sad, but we continued the conversation

He passed on his faith to his children

being a public figure, never hid his faith. Although he follows traditional religious practices in his own way, he pays great attention to the issue of values in life. As he himself emphasizes, he passed on to his daughters the most important moral values, which are important regardless of religious practices. His daughters, like him, declare themselves believers, but each interprets faith in their own way.
