Emiliano García-Page, president of Castilla-La Mancha, has announced through social networks his intention to contact the bullfighting sector to create a new award for bullfighting, after The Ministry of Culture has dispensed with the National Bullfighting Award this Friday.
The award, created in 2011 during the Government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, thus ends its career after the Ministry of Culture, led by Ernest Urtasunhas decided to eliminate the National Bullfighting Award this year and has initiated the procedures to its complete elimination.
“It adapts because the awards respond to a general feeling of what Spain is. I asked the ministry to do a review and we concluded that there is a majority of Spaniards who care about animals and We do not believe that it is appropriate to maintain an award that rewards a form of animal abuse“, Urtasun justified the decision in Al Rojo Vivo.
Shortly after learning of the suppression of the award, Emiliano García-Page has used his ‘X’ account to announce his intention to create new bullfighting awards, promoted by his government in Castilla-La Mancha and that he hopes to “coordinate” with other autonomies, a decision that has similarly been made since the Madrid’s community.
“I want to announce that We are going to contact the bullfighting sector to create Bullfighting Awards from CLM. These awards also have the ambition of being able to be coordinated or shared with other autonomies, since we intend for them to have national and international scope,” explained the president of La Mancha.
Ernest Urtasun has been asked about this in Al Rojo Vivo and the Minister of Culture has avoided entering into controversies with the president of La Mancha: “I am going to avoid all controversy. Each administration, within the framework of its powers, is free to consider and mark the priorities you want. If anyone considers that in 2024 forms of animal torture should be rewarded with public money, they are free to do so.. But in my powers, we have made a decision that I believe connects with a majority feeling of the Spanish people.”
