On May 2, 2007, a few minutes before midnight, the singer Isabel Pantoja was detained in her villa in Marbella and taken to the cells of the provincial police station of Malaga due to her accusation in the Malaya casean operation that uncovered the urban corruption in Marbella. The tune passed the night stopped and the next morning she was transferred to the Marbella courts to testify before the investigating judge, Miguel Angel Torreswhere she spent three hours answering an interrogation, accused of several crimes against public finances and money laundering.

The former mayor of Marbella and sentimental partner of the artist, Julian Muñoz , who had already been in prison since October 5, 2006, convicted of another corruption case, was also accused in the Malaya case. The suspicions of the investigation pointed to a plan between Muñoz and Pantoja for the artist to acquire land and real estate with the profits that the mayor had obtained from her criminal activities.

Our colleague from the Andalusian delegation, Juanjo Cuéllar, witnessed the enormous attention that Isabel Pantoja’s court appearance attracted, with a multitude of curious onlookers and followers at the doors of the Marbella courts, with opinions both for and against the beloved and famous performer of Spanish copla and song.
