“” (“Rings of Power”) is the largest and most expensive television project for Amazon Prime Video so far. Although the viewership results of the first season of the series could indeed indicate an international success (over 25 million viewers worldwide in the first day after the premiere), the production did not enjoy not only the recognition of critics, but also the interest of the viewers themselves. Many of them actually started watching the series, but less than half (and in the US, only 37%) made it to the last episode.

Charlotte Brandstrom has been specializing in directing television series for years. She worked on “Wallander”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, and most recently on the third, highly rated episode of “Shogun”. In “Rings of Power” she had the opportunity to supervise two episodes. However, in an interview with the website, she stated that the low ratings of the work commissioned by Amazon Prime Video have little to do with the quality of workmanship. The blame lies with the fans who didn’t necessarily approach the production with open hearts.
I’m proud of the episodes I made. I spent a lot of time discussing with the showrunners about what the characters would look like and what path they would go through, what was changing and what people wanted to see. You can’t come to the set and only think about what a gigantic investment it is, because it’s terrifying. It was sad that people rated the series before we even showed it to them. Nevertheless, I adapted to it and wanted to present them with what they really expected.
Indeed, some viewers began to criticize the production when the actors playing the main roles were presented. The elf Arondir, played by Ismael Cruz Cordova, caused a lot of controversy. Ultimately, however, it was not Arondir’s plot that turned out to be the worst, but the main character, young Galadriel, who appeared in places she had never appeared in Tolkien’s books, did things that were simply stupid and showed an exceptional lack of common sense and motivation.

Some fans mixed Peter Jackson’s films with Tolkien’s works, so we wanted to stay true to Tolkien and give it all a cool look. I love Jackson’s films and that’s why I got involved in this project. I guess we wanted to mix everything with everything.
The second season of “Rings of Power” is expected later this year
No matter what, Amazon Prime Video stands firm that “Rings of Power” will have further seasons. According to the first announcements, there will be as many as five of them, but so far there is no specific information about the second season of the show. We are supposed to expect the premiere later this year, but no photos from the set or announcements have been shown yet. However, Charlotte Brandstrom confirms that the production is in progress.
The new season will be darker. There are more nerves, more drama. I’m not responsible for everything there, but I hope the viewers will like it, says Brandstrom.
If internet detectives are to be believed, we will see several people playing the role of Sauron in the second season. Together with the proto-hobbits and the pretended Gandalf, we will find ourselves in the far south-east of Middle-earth, conspiracies in Númenor will reach their zenith, and Galadriel will once again rush from place to place, trying to locate Sauron. Once again, the most interesting and best implemented seems to be the plot of the dwarves in Moria, where the Balrog has just awakened.
