This type of special editions have been happening for a long time on every news television that has its own evening newscast. However, TVP did not decide to take such a step for a long time. The reasons were probably numerous and inherited from the previous management of Telewizja Polska. Apparently, however, they managed to overcome them, because on May 1 in the evening a special edition of “” was shown from two places in Europe with two hosts.
Special edition of “7.30 p.m.” on May 1
On May 1, 2024, Poland celebrated the 20th anniversary of accession to the European Union. On this occasion, “7.30” was conducted not only from Warsaw, but also from Brussels. Joanna Dunikowska-Paź and Marek Czyż jointly announced the materials of this issue. The journalist was present in the capital of Poland, outside the standard studio in Woronicza, and Marek Czyż visited the TVP correspondent in Brussels, Dorota Bawołek, from her standard place overlooking the European Parliament.
We were looking for this city, this address on the map of Europe with great hope that it would be hospitable to us. And so it turned out. Brussels – the capital of European plans, concepts, discussions and agreements. This is where we decided to find our place and this is where they have been listening to the Polish voice for 20 years. We will describe in a moment how important it is – said Marek Czyż.
The materials summarizing the benefits of joining the EU also include the need to reform the Community and the voices of Eurosceptics calling for “Polexit”, i.e. Poland’s exit from the EU, in line with Russia’s interests.
Even TV Republika praises the EU, but…
The topic of the anniversary of Poland’s accession to the European Union was the number one topic on all news television in the country. Also, the usually very Eurosceptic TV Republika focused on the positive sides of accession in the first material of the evening news “Dzisiaj”. It was said that thanks to joining the EU, Poland had a chance to make a civilizational leap and develop in every aspect – cultural, economic, social. The voice of critics of the European Union was emphasized slightly more strongly than on TVP, represented in “Dzisia” by, among others, MEP Beata Kempa. “We joined a different Union, and if we look at these changes in the treaty, it is a completely different world,” said the MEP.
