The comedy “Taste of Freedom” is a charming film that… After its success on Ukrainian screens, it will appear in Polish cinemas on May 31, 2024. An engaging, humorous and warm story will take viewers to the world of culinary magic. The film uses fantasy elements to present the culinary culture of Ukraine on an unusual scale.
What will the film be about?
The film begins its story when Waria, a young and ambitious cook, loses her job in a small cafe in the province. Its refined dishes are not appreciated by the local community. Undeterred, she decides to move to a bigger city to fulfill her dream of managing her own prestigious restaurant. For this purpose, she is inspired by the figure of Olga Franko – the author of cookbooks that were once banned and considered “bourgeois” by the USSR. Franko’s book from 1929, “The First Ukrainian Universal Practical Cuisine”, becomes a signpost for Varia on the path to culinary success.
The filmmakers, under the supervision of screenwriter Olena Morentsova-Shulyk, made sure that “The Taste of Freedom” was not only entertainment, but also a tribute to the Ukrainian culinary tradition. Olena Morentsova-Shulyk emphasizes that the aim of the project is primarily to promote the rich, characteristic culinary culture of Ukraine among young people, encouraging them to discover their own cultural roots.
