The story of the film focuses on the character of Mufasa, Simba’s father, who initially grows up as an orphan to become a wise, powerful and compassionate ruler. The film will be told in flashbacks by Rafiki, the wise baboon known to everyone, who passes on the legend of Mufasa to a young lion cub named Kiara, the daughter of Simba and Nala. Timon and Pumbaa are also expected to appear in the film. At key moments in Mufasa’s life, he will be accompanied by Taka – the future Scar, here presented as a brother who takes him into the family.

Director Barry Jenkins, speaking about the film, emphasizes its epic character and promises a mixture of adventure, comedy and serious moments. In one of the interviews, he noted that “Mufasa: The Lion King” is a film that offers viewers both funny and deeply moving scenes, telling a story about family, destiny and identity.

The film’s trailer revealed that in the original language version of Blue, Ivy Carter, BeyoncĂ©’s daughter, will make her debut as Kiara. BeyoncĂ© will return as Nala, who voiced the 2019 film. Aaron Pierre will voice Mufasa and Kelvin Harrison Jr. will play the role of his brother, Scar, who is listed as Taka in the end credits.
