Luis is an octogenarian who continues studying at the university, takes notes, listens and actively participates. “He is truly an exemplary student in many ways, due to his own dedication, his vocation and his insatiable curiosity,” describes his teacher
“I hope to be lucky and finish International Studies now, in June,” says the student, who throughout his life has taken several degrees. Among his degrees would be Telecommunications Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Economics or ADE. “I was waiting to finish my first degree to get married,” he says.
Philosophy, for his part, he started when he was going to retire and finished it when he was already retired. He has also worked in Sweden and studied a master’s degree in the United States and, at almost 80 years old, he completed Oriental Studies.
“They called me, in colloquial language, ‘Shiao papa’ which in Chinese means ‘little dad’. I was the daddy of the class,” he declares. That desire for knowledge led him to put those studies into practice: “I was 70 years old when I took a plane and went to China and I was in China visiting the country that I had studied in books,” he confesses.
University life is his passion and an example for his family. “He has instilled in us that love for knowledge and the possibility of learning for pure pleasure, but he has also been a private teacher at home,” says his son, although also for his other family, the university student. Luis is an example with which he shows that it is never too late to continue learning.
