Kot dreamed of going to theater school, but he didn’t pass his high school final exams. Then he received a helping hand

Before Tomasz Kot became one of the most popular Polish actors, he had to fight against his own weaknesses. The greatest thing for him was learning. He was never a top student at school, but he dreamed of getting into theater studies. He failed his high school final exams, but that didn’t stop him from pursuing his dream of an acting career.

Although Tomasz Kot is currently one of the most sought-after actors on the Polish theater and film scene, he was a long way from success in his profession and a brilliant career. Before the star of “Wielka Woda” and “Skazany na bluesa” came up with the idea of studying at a theater school, he was a shy and modest teenager.

Tomasz Kot did not pass his high school final exams. He wasn’t going to give up

He tried to find his place in society thanks to his sense of humor, which was supposed to ensure him acceptance by his peers. His academic results also turned out to be a big problem. The actor himself never hid the fact that he was unlucky with teachers. Only the Polish teacher appreciated the way of everyone he met along the way. When he failed at school, he moved to the theological seminary. Shortly thereafter, he discovered what really interested him and returned to high school.

In the third grade, he performed on the stage of the Legnica theater for the first time, but his newfound passion for acting did not particularly appeal to his parents. They were afraid that passion would adversely affect the already poor grades of the teenage Kot. However, the actor had ambitions – he wanted to apply to theater school, but he got into it only after a year. He failed his high school leaving exams, which prevented him from applying to any studies. “I had it in my mind that I wouldn’t go beyond this threshold anyway and I started to give a damn. But my classmates helped me,” he said in the “WojewódzkiKędzierski” podcast.

The director of the Legnica theater extended a helping hand to him. Tomasz Kot moved into the Actor’s House and started life on his own. Shortly afterwards, he got into a theater school in Krakow. After moving to Lesser Poland, the actor’s professional life flourished, but he himself increasingly struggled with an alcohol problem. Everything changed when Tomasz Kot met his future wife Agnieszka Olczyk. The relationship with his beloved led him to the conclusion in life – he must take care of himself. A year later, the couple welcomed their daughter Blanka into the world. Three years later, the actor’s son Leon was born.
