Witold Matulka and Bogusław Kaczyński met in 1994 while auditioning for a role in the play “Gypsy Baron” performed at the Wrocław Operetta. The aspiring singer and the respected music critic quickly established a common rapport, and their relationship grew from a purely professional one into a long-term close friendship.
Matulka and Kaczyński have been friends for years. The decision to change the will shocked everyone
The men spent a lot of time together – they went shopping, meetings, concerts, and there was no end to conversations about life and funny anecdotes about past events. Matulka had great respect for Kaczyński – he owed his career as an opera singer to him. He treated the artist like a father, which he did not fail to mention in an interview he gave to “Super Express” just two weeks after his death: “I loved Mr. Bogusław like a father. He was very close to me, I miss him.”
Seeing how much sympathy Kaczyński Matulka had for each other, many assumed that after the star’s death, all his fortune would fall to the singer. Kaczyński did not have any close family to whom he could pass on the goods he had accumulated over the years of his career. His only sister had died a few years earlier, and he had no wife or children. However, he had a faithful friend by his side, on whose help he could always count. “I helped as much as I could. I did whatever he asked me to do, and there were incredible amounts of it,” Matulka told “Super Express.”
After the artist’s death, the portal published a list of goods and real estate that, as many assumed, were to be inherited by his friend. We are talking about a 150-meter apartment in Wilanów, a villa in Konstancin, two apartments in the center of Warsaw, a luxurious BMW and a collection of antiques. However, Matulka did not receive any of these things. A few months before his death, Kaczyński changed his will, bequeathing all his assets to the Orfeo Foundation, founded by him in 1991. Its task is to promote Polish culture.
The money from the inheritance was to be used to organize concerts and cultural events. “Orfeo, established by Mr. Bogusław, wants to continue the work he started. We want to support and promote young talents, create concerts, organize shows, meetings and recitals to continue to bring the beauty of art closer and awaken the love of music and art in people,” we read on the official website foundation.
