Sinead O’Connor is not only an Irish singer, but also an activist. The singer became famous thanks to the international hit “Nothing Compares 2 U”. In Poland, the artist was famous for her appearance on Saturday Night Live in 1992. Then O’Connor tore up a photo of John Paul II on TV as a protest against abuses in the Catholic Church.
Sinead O’Connor’s daughter sang “Nothing Compares 2 U” live
The singer died on July 26, 2023 at the age of 56 from natural causes. A memorial concert was recently held in New York for Sinead O’Connor and Shane MacGowan of The Pogues, another Irish artist who died last year. On stage you could see, among others, Dropkick Murphys and David Gray.
One of the most important and moving moments of the concert was the performance of Sinead O’Connor’s daughter, Roisin Waters, who performed the great hit “Nothing Compares 2 U”. The girl does not sing professionally, but she coped with her mother’s repertoire perfectly.
“I don’t think it doesn’t move anyone.”
– Sing if you want – the 28-year-old said from the stage and performed a touching version of a well-known song. Amanda Palmer of The Dresden Dolls’, who also appeared at the concert, was delighted with Waters’ performance. “Oh my gosh, I don’t think there was anyone in the room who didn’t cry,” she summed up the 28-year-old’s performance on Instagram. “Music can convey more than words,” she added.
The song “Nothing Compares 2 U” appeared on SinĂ©ad O’Connor’s second studio album in 1990, but it is not her original song. The hit was written by Prince for his band The Family.
