Margaret: I want to make my own mistakes [WYWIAD]

After a love affair with rap and a very urban album, Margaret sings pop again in “Bruises and Sequins”. – This is completely different pop, because I also have a different baggage of experience… and I also think that hip hop and my rap era also gave me a lot in the context of writing lyrics in Polish, so I think that’s how it all happened , but after some time I also missed pop – says the singer in an interview with Gazeta.pl and adds:

I’m a pop girl, my hip hop was also totally pop, and I longed to go home.

Last year, the song “Tańcz stupida”, the first single announcing the new album, was very popular in the summer. Recently, “Have a Nice Summer” appeared – the last one before the premiere scheduled for April 26. You can watch the entire interview with Margaret here:

“Dance Stupid” refers to Lady Pank, but Margaret listened to other hits as a child

As for “Dance Stupid”, the title refers to the famous song by Lady Pank. Margaret tells Marta Korycka that the band members know this very well and gave her a sign when they met in the rehearsal room. The singer recalls that in her childhood she often heard their songs, but then she listened to slightly different music and danced to different music at school discos:

Dad probably danced to Lady Pank, and to Bajmu, because I remember it was always coming from my parents’ bedroom. Me – Agnieszka Chylińska and SHE I remember that I had cassettes, my mother always took them from me, because Agnieszka was already doing quite well with meat – of course, I liked it very much.

– And it was nice that you could copy cassettes, so I had 10 cassettes recorded with ONA, my mother always took them from me saying that I couldn’t listen to such music, and I had another cassette under my pillow – she recalls. What else besides SHE? The set is quite surprising for some:

SHE, Marek Grechuta, Grażyna Łobaszewska, and Smurf hits! When I heard Young Leosia, it seemed to me that the Smurf hits were back, because they always changed the timbre of the voice, pitched it higher, so Young Leosia is in my heart. There is a huge pink sofa with bubbles and balloons for her, because I simply loved Smurf hits!

Margaret resigned from the international contract: I want to make my own mistakes

“Bruises and Sequins” is Margaret’s fifth album. Although she sings in it not only in Polish (the album also includes songs in English and Spanish), she resigned from her international contract some time ago. Why? – At some point it turned out that I was not able to give 100% decision-making for my work, or in fact for my life, because when you work so hard and intensively, it simply becomes your whole life, and the international contract simply required it – says.

– I did this for some time, but I came to the point where I decided that I couldn’t do it and that I wanted to decide about it one hundred percent. I even want to make these mistakes. Maybe someone wants to protect me from them, but I want to practice all this for myself – explains Margaret. And although she points out that she learned a lot and remembers that time fondly, she came to the conclusion that she couldn’t let someone decide about herself like that.
