Bobby Vinton is an American singer of Polish origin, who gained international popularity and recognition from listeners with hits such as “Roses Are Red” and “Mr. Lonely”. Among the American Polish diaspora, he is proud of the name “Polish prince”, all thanks to the song “My Melody of Love”, several verses of which were written in Polish. How did his career start and what is known about him?

Bobby Vinton was born on April 16, 1935 in Canonsburg to Stan Vinton and Dorothy Studzinski, who were of Polish-Lithuanian descent. Already as a child, he showed great talent, so he started attending a music school, where he learned to play the saxophone, trumpet, oboe, drums and piano. He started his career at the age of 16, playing in bands including: Chubby Checker or Chuck Berry, until he finally decided to try his hand at being a soloist.

Quite quickly he signed a contract with one of the labels, but in the end the cooperation never took place. The failure did not discourage him at all, but motivated him to continue working. It was then that he released the song “Roses Are Red”, which instantly became a hit. His repertoire includes many more hits that he has released over the years, and the most popular ones include: “Blue Velvet”, “There! I’ve Said It Again” and “Mr. Lonely”, which are still known and sung by all generations of listeners.

However, his greatest popularity came only in 1974, when he released “My Melody of Love”, known in Poland under the title “My dear, I love you”, the chorus of which was partially written in Polish. The single quickly achieved commercial success, selling over 3 million copies. After the performance, during which he sang it live for the first time, the American Polonia went crazy about him, and the singer was nicknamed the “Polish prince”.

Over the years of his career, Bobby Vinton has recorded as many as 38 studio albums and slightly fewer compilations with other artists. He also fulfilled himself as an actor, playing in films and series, and the host of the famous talk show “The Bobby Winton Show”, in which he eagerly mentioned his Polish roots. In the meantime, he also found love with Dolores Dobbins, whom he knew from childhood. in late 1962 and had five children: Robert, Kristin, Christopher, Jennifer and Rebecca.

On April 16, 2024, Bobby Vinton celebrated his 89th birthday. He officially ended his career 9 years ago as a result of health complications that he suffered after contracting shingles, but despite this he did not disappear from the public space and is still professionally active. From time to time, he performs on stage and also willingly gives interviews in television programs and radio broadcasts.
