Zakopane gives up on “New Year’s Eve”. Marcin Miller unimpressed

Zakopane decided to change the government in the local elections. The new mayor of the city has already announced that “New Year’s Eve Dreams” will not return to Równia Krupowa. The long-time star of the event, Marcin Miller, comments on this decision.

Zakopane has chosen Łukasz Filipowicz, a non-partisan politician since birth, as its new mayor. Filipowicz defeated his competitor Agnieszka Nowak-Gąsienica from PiS with a strong advantage –

The new mayor means the end of PiS domination in the city and a completely new order. Filipowicz has already announced that there will be no new “”, which was the apple of the eye of the previous mayor Leszek Dorula and Jacek Kurski, former president of TVP.

Buried. The new mayor gives up on “New Year’s Eve”

“New Year’s Eve Dreams” took place in Zakopane from the turn of 2016 and 2017. And from the very beginning he was not welcomed by the residents. They complained about disruptions in the city (the event took place on Równia Krupowa near the city center), lasting both before and after New Year’s Eve. In addition, there was noise, dramatic mess and rubbish left behind by tourists. We cannot forget about the questionable quality of the performances and the organization itself, which turned from an event with pop music stars into a disco-polo event.

In 2021, Jacek Kurski defended the organization of the event, saying that the criticism of TVP as the organizer results from “the envy of various people who cannot stand the fact that Telewizja Polska won again, has the best offer, the best entertainment, had the best New Year’s Eve” – he said then in ” News Guest. And indeed, “New Year’s Eve Dreams” attracted crowds, although year after year it offered viewers exactly the same show and the same stars with the same songs.

The new mayor says a firm “no” to such entertainment. Shortly after the announcement of the results of the local government elections, he responded to questions about a new New Year’s party:

The image of Zakopane needs to be changed. There will be no Leszek Dorula rule in Zakopane, there is no Jacek Kurski on TVP, so there will be no “New Year’s Eve”. However, I am in favor of having an event. I remember perfectly well the times when shop windows on Krupówki were covered with boards for safety reasons. We need to think about a smaller-scale event that promotes the region, he said shortly after the elections.

Marcin Miller from the Boys band comments on Zakopane’s decision

. There are a lot of options, and this is also indicated by Marcin Miller from the band Boys, who was one of the stars of Telewizja Polska in previous years, when asked by the Plejada website:

Whether it’s Zakopane or another city – it’s a fish for me. I play where I have a contract, where people want to have fun. This is what the mayor requested, I don’t know if it’s good. This is the only event of the year, people want to have fun and that’s it. Opinions are always divided. For some people the music will be too loud, for others the firecrackers are going off. If there is no New Year’s Eve in Zakopane, we will party in Chorzów – he summed up.

The question whether Boys will continue to perform under the TVP banner remains open.
