Jerzy Kryszak on Polish politics after October 15: Nothing really happened

Many cabaret artists regularly observe the Polish political scene. One of such people is Jerzy Kryszak, who has been particularly critical of the actions of our government in recent years. In the latest interview, however, he did not hide his disappointment when asked about the current political situation in Poland.

Jerzy Kryszak is a graduate of the Krakow State Theater School, who, after graduating from school in 1974, made his debut on the stage of the Theater. Juliusz Słowacki in Krakow. Two years later, he played for the first time on the big screen in Jan Łomnicki’s war drama “Save the City”, which opened the way for him to many roles.

Jerzy Kryszak started in the theater. He has been a cabaret artist for over 30 years

One of the best remembered to this day is the one from Stanisław Bareja’s comedy series “Alternative 4”. There, Kryszak played the role of the clever doctor Zdzisław Kołek. However, in the early 1990s, he decided to permanently leave the theater and started a career as a cabaret artist and television personality.

In the years 1991–1994, he co-hosted the political cabaret “Polskie Zoo” on the Jedynka television channel, and later was the star of the program “HBO na stojaka!”. In recent years, he has not hosted any shows, but he regularly performs on cabaret stages and festivals throughout the country, where he still comments on local political life.

Kryszak has no mercy for Polish politics. He complains that the same faces have been there for years

In recent years, the cabaret artist has had many interesting topics in abundance, thanks to the turbulent eight-year rule of the United Right. During the press conference of the Amazon program “LOL: Who Laughs Last”, in which Kryszak appears, he was asked about the current level of political life in the country. In an interview with Plejada, he stated that the autumn elections did not change much.

All the characters remained, i.e. the actors of the drama are still on stage. It’s not like after October 15 some people quit their jobs and went back to their homes, where one works with wood and the other with something else. No no. Everyone is on stage. They are in their places. Nothing really happened. Only the functions have changed, but the people are the same, said Kryszak.

The satirist was also not optimistic about the assessment of our society. In his opinion, Poles have very low social awareness of how important politics has an impact on our everyday lives.

– (…) People generally do not realize what one tribunal, another tribunal, the fifth tribunal, or the Supreme Court deals with. They are taking care of our business and we won’t be laughing if bandits take over. This is the case, for example, in Haiti right now, when gangsters have taken power. No one is laughing there, except the gangster family, he admitted directly.
