Although 24 years have passed since Magik’s death, his songs are still popular among new generations of listeners. In the latest interview, the rappers with whom he co-founded the band Paktofonika talked about the circumstances of his death, revealing previously unknown facts.

, who used the pseudonym Magik in the industry, was considered one of the most talented rappers in Poland. He started his career in the Koliber 44 band, but it was Paktofonika, which he founded together with Wojciech “Fokus” Alszer, that brought him the greatest popularity and recognition. Together they promoted such hits as “I am God” and “Moments of Upheaval”, which today are considered classics of the genre. In turn, in his private life he fulfilled himself as a husband and father. Everything was ended by his suicide.

A few days after his recording debut, Magik took his own life. The rapper struggled with depression

In December 2000, Paktofonika debuted on the recording market with the album “Kinematografia”, which turned out to be a huge success. 8 days later, Magik jumped out of the window of his apartment on the 9th floor. The musician was quickly taken to hospital, but his life could not be saved, and the news of his death plunged not only the rapper’s family and friends, but also numerous fans, into mourning.

People close to him knew that he had been struggling with depression for some time. It all started when, trying to avoid compulsory military service, he simulated that he suffered from a mental illness. – He started to do so much that he damaged his psyche. He chose the tactic of pretending to be completely insane. It was postponed twice, but only for a year. Telling himself that he was crazy and that nothing was working out for him led to his overexerting his body, Salbert recalled several years ago in an interview for . – Somewhere in his subconscious he encoded that it was bad and this led to a weakening of his psyche – he added.

Paktofonika’s musicians appeared in the latest episode of the show hosted by Gabi Drzewiecka on YouTube. During the conversation, they once again made honest confessions about the events from over 24 years ago. They confessed that right after Magik’s death, his family put enormous pressure on them and blamed them for not reacting to his problems early enough. – It was immediately after death. And it’s more towards family. It’s a bit like, you know, “You were his closest friends. Why didn’t you see?” – . – Depression is often invisible. Depression is often hidden behind a smile, behind a good mood, they explained.

At the same time, they admitted that right after Magik’s death they felt many extreme emotions – from sadness and bitterness to anger and a sense of enormous injustice. They also couldn’t understand why he took his own life just when their career was gaining momentum and they had a chance to fulfill their dreams of fame. – There was a moment when I was simply angry that he left us, but on the other hand, I think that people do not decide to take such a step just because “I will spite you.” We were probably at the end of the ladder, like his problems – explained the rapper, saying that he can understand it because he also struggled with depression at one time, but he sought help in time.
