Actors, musicians, presenters, celebrities and influencers profit greatly from their popularity. In addition to a lot of money, they can also count on special treatment and adoration from fans. However, even the positive sides of fame can turn into a nightmare. Fascination with public figures sometimes exceeds the boundaries of good taste and even the law.
A fan harassed Harry Styles and sent him eight thousand sheets of paper
Harry Styles, among others, found this out. A 35-year-old fan of the artist committed long-term harassment and stalking of the star. Myra Carvalho from Brazil went to west London, from where she sent handwritten letters to the singer. In addition, she ordered a series of thematic cards for him. The family had no idea about the woman’s departure and its purpose.
In total, Carvalho addressed eight thousand cards to Harry Styles during the month – including wedding cards. According to the prosecutor’s office, two letters were delivered directly to the address of the famous artist. The woman was charged with stalking and harassment that resulted in serious distress and discomfort to the injured party. The 35-year-old was arrested and during the trial she pleaded guilty.
Harry Styles’ stalker was sentenced
Harrow Crown Court in London found Myra Carvalho guilty of the charges and sentenced the woman to 14 weeks in prison. In addition, a fan of Harry Styles was banned from approaching the star for 10 years. This also applies to the artist’s concerts and public events in which he will participate.
As reported by the BBC, Carvalho cannot contact the famous musician directly or indirectly and cannot stay in north-west London. She was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £134. The surcharge operates under the English and Wallan legal system and is paid into the General Victims and Witnesses Fund.
