Priests’ earnings are a topic that arouses a lot of emotions. It is worth noting that their income usually comes from various sources. Many clergy work in schools as catechists or as chaplains in various institutions. In addition, they receive money from the faithful during services and the so-called carols, as well as for funerals, weddings and baptisms. It is no secret that some priests also run businesses.
Parish priest: the salary is not high
So how much does a priest earn? As you can easily guess, this is a very individual issue and they vary. It depends not only on the number of activities the priest undertakes, but also on the size of the parish and the positions held. Father Leszek Slipek, parish priest of St. Andrew the Apostle in Warsaw, in an interview with “Tygodnik Powszechny”, he admitted that his salary “is not high”. It ranges from PLN 2,000 to PLN 3,000 gross per month. In addition, he receives a pension of PLN 1.9 thousand. PLN per month.

This issue was also raised some time ago by priest Sebastian Kosecki, popular on social media. The priest was a guest of the ” Moje Świat” podcast. – It may sound bad, but it’s the truth. In January, 10 people died and there was one wedding, and in February, one person died and there was no wedding. Well, we know that the salary will be much lower in February than it would be in January. A lot also depends on the size of the parish, said the priest.
Kosecki revealed that his earnings usually range from PLN 1,000. PLN up to 4 thousand zloty. However, this is not the only money that flows into his account. Like many other clergy, he also works at school. – Sometimes there is more than necessary. These are not huge sums. I don’t spend money on my wife, I don’t spend money on children, I don’t spend money on an apartment, so I can save this money, he said.
