A list of the productions that stood out for their creativity this year according to the opinion of the columnist.
This year a battered music industry returned more active than ever. Different studio productions showed the creativity that was anesthetized in the middle of a pandemic.
Of this variety of options, I consider these (in no specific order) the most prominent:
Happier Than Ever – Billie Eilish
The young star’s second album shook the tides of a medium that had been passive until then. Billie Eilish merged different styles and genres, resulting in some of the most listened to songs of the year on digital platforms. My Future, NDA and more. Eilish established herself as one of the most relevant artists of today.
The Madrileño – C. Tangana
The first great success of the year was undoubtedly this work by the Spanish C. Tangana, who managed to bring together some of his idols such as Jorge Drexler, Andrés Calamaro and Gipsy Kings. El Madrileño helped him to achieve three Latin Grammys: best pop-rock song, best alternative song Y better recording engineering.
The Disko – Ca7riel
Argentinean Ca7riel has declared on some occasions that his music has no genre. In this new material you can clearly see what he is referring to. From trap, to rock. From hip hop to electronics; The Disko it is an opening to the new sounds of Latin America.
Daddy’s Home – St. Vincent
Pop, psychedelia and the unmistakable imprint of the American Annie Clark made this album obtain recognition from specialized media and of course the fans. A conceptual project based on the release of the artist’s father from prison in 2019. The single Pay Your Way in Pain was the presentation flag of this prolific studio production.
An Evening With Silk Sonic – Silk Sonic
At the beginning of 2021, this group formed by Bruno Mars and Anderson. Paak topped the charts with the single Leave The Door Open and it kept the music world on the lookout for what they might offer. The full album was released in November and was undoubtedly a real hit that mixes modern pop with 70s genres like funk and soul.
After almost two years in which art was on hiatus, we can once again enjoy it at its best.
