This is the gem of Lower Silesia. The castle looks like something out of a fairy tale, but once a loud scandal broke out there

This palace dates back to the 19th century and is the pearl of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. Unusual things happened within its walls, and the owner of the building caused quite a moral scandal. Today it is a beautiful tourist attraction.

The Palace of Marianna Orańska stands in Kamieniec Ząbkowicki, a small town located less than 80 km from Wrocław. In 1096, the Czech Prince Brzetysław II built his stronghold here, and in 1838, the Dutch princess Marianna of Orange became the owner of the Kamieniec estate and decided to build her palace here.

The project was undertaken by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, a German urban planner and architect, who is considered one of the most outstanding creators in the Kingdom of Prussia. Work started in the fall of 1839, but construction was quickly suspended.

Marianna Orańska was considered a businesswoman of the 19th century. She came from the Orange-Nassau dynasty. In 1830, she married the Prussian prince, Albrecht Hohenzollern, but although the couple had five children, the marriage was unsuccessful, and finally, 8 years after the wedding, the spouses divorced due to the woman’s numerous infidelities. The princess had an affair with, among other things, the pub, the librarian and the personal secretary. Orańska was punished with infamy, i.e. loss of honor, good name and civil rights. Therefore, construction was suspended.

The construction, which cost the equivalent of 3 tons, was completed only in 1872, when Marianna transferred the palace to her son. The palace has an extraordinary courtyard, plenty of cloisters, fountains and towers. Entrance to the palace requires a ticket, but it is a real gem of Lower Silesia that cannot be missed. There is a beautiful park area around it the place seems lonely and cut off from modern times.
