After a break of several years, David Lynch plans to return to the screen with a project the idea of which was created almost two decades ago. We are talking about the animated film “Snootworld”, the script for which he wrote in cooperation with Caroline Thompson. The screenwriter’s film credits include such productions as: “Edward Scissorhands”, “The Addams Family” and “Corpse Bride”.
Lynch rejected by Netflix
Although Lynch himself believes that his latest project has great potential, he fears that modern producers no longer want to engage in working on classic stories. “‘Snootworld’ is a bit of an old-fashioned story, and today’s animations focus more on superficial jokes. Old-fashioned cartoons are considered whiny, apparently people don’t want to watch them. It’s a different world and it’s easier to say ‘no’ than to say ‘yes'” – explained the director of “Twin Peaks” in an interview with Deadline.
A few months ago, David Lynch submitted his project to Netflix, but Netflix rejected it. Despite this, the director is still looking for producers who would be ready to make “Snootworld”. “I like the story. It’s something that both kids and adults can appreciate… I’ve never really done simple animations, but today’s computers can do some spectacular things,” Lynch said.
For David Lynch, “Snootworld” will be the first such an extensive project in nearly 20 years. It was then that the director last worked on a feature-length film called Inland Empire. In 2017, he returned to his hit from years ago, “Twin Peaks”. The 18-episode production was created as a continuation of the story that stole the hearts of viewers in the 1990s and made the director himself one of the most outstanding in his profession.
