He experimented, mixed, tested on small animals, and finally brought to work a drink fortified with his own brew.
For several months, he offered it not only to Lin Qi, whom he hated, but also to other colleagues. As we read on the website, he poured the mixture into coffee, tea, water, alcohol and food. The co-workers were luckier than the boss – their poisoning resulted in minor stomach pains. Lin Qi died 10 days after drinking the last poisoned tea.
The perpetrator was quickly arrested – Lin Qi was still alive. However, Xu Yao did not plead guilty and did not want to say what was in the mixture given to the boss – if he had done so, perhaps the doctors would have been able to save the man’s life. Lin Qi died, and Xu Yao was sentenced three years later, a day after the premiere of “The Three-Body Problem” on Netflix. He was found guilty and sentenced to death. This type of punishment in China is carried out practically immediately after it is announced by the court – most often by means of a lethal injection or a shot to the head.
