According to the Central Statistical Office, the most common causes of divorce are three issues: incompatibility of characters, failure to maintain marital fidelity and alcohol abuse.

In 2021, the highest number of divorces occurred in Warsaw. Kraków took second place and Wrocław third. Residents of Tarnów, Chorzów, Wałbrzych, Opole and Zielona Góra were the least likely to divorce.
According to the portal, in 2023 the number of divorce lawsuits increased even more. 47 district courts received over 81,000 applications, 3% more than a year earlier. The District Court in Poznań received the most divorce petitions. Warsaw, Gdańsk and Kraków also rank among the leaders. According to lawyers, the growing number of divorces is still the result of COVID-19. – The pandemic period could have contributed to communication problems and highlighted character differences, or even verified them – said Dr. Małgorzata Eysymontt, who specializes in family law.
